“Who is who“ in Nigeria Politics Today!

Some individuals have the final say in Nigerian politics today, and they are undoubtedly the “who is who“ in Nigeria. These individuals can be referred to as the kingmakers.

While some of them may be holding one political office or the other currently, some other ones are not holding any political office; maybe they held one or two offices in the past.

Another set of individuals that are kingmakers in the Nigerian political space today are those who had never held any political office before and may not even be interested in holding any in the future; this set of people are satisfied with playing the kingmakers, or godfathers if you don’t mind. This write-up will focus on “who is who“ in Nigeria politics.

List of “who is who“ in Nigeria Politics

 

1.      President Muhammadu Buhari

who is who in NigeriaHe is presently the president, federal republic of Nigeria. In a way, he is also the most important personality in the ruling party, APC.

As a result, he has a say in virtually everything that happens in the political party, which makes him a “who is who“ in Nigeria politics. Since he is of the northern Nigerian extraction, he also calls the short in that part of the country as far as politics is concerned.  He has a very strong home base support that has given him a very strong political stability.

2.      Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan

He is the former president before Mohammadu Buhari took over the reins of authority. He lost out in the 2015 presidential election, but he still has a lot of support in his political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In fact, he is the only living former president in the PDP, no thanks to the death of former president Umaru Yar Adua. All in all, he is a “who is who“ in Nigeria politics.

3.      Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Call him the godfather of Lagos politics and you may not be far from the truth. You can also call him the biggest landlord in Lagos or Jagaban, as he is popularly called by his admirers.

From whichever perspective you look at it, Bola Tinubu is influential in Nigeria politics, making him a “who is who “ in Nigeria today.

He is the kingmaker in Lagos state; in fact, he was responsible for the emergence of both Babatunde Fashola and Akinwumi Ambode as governors of Lagos State. Rumours have it that he was also responsible for the emergence of Professor Yemi Osinbajo as the Vice President of Nigeria.

4.      Senator Bukola Saraki

He was the former two-term governor of Kwara State, and he is presently the Senate president. His final emergence as the Senate President indicates that he knows how to play his political games right.

Since he became the Senate president, he had never failed to use his position to buy favor for himself and entrench himself as a force to reckon with among the senators. With his present-day influence in the Senate, Bukola Saraki is no doubt a “who is who “ in Nigeria

5.      Yakubu Dogara

He is the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, and he also has a considerable political influence, especially among the members of the House. His reign in the House is an indication of his acceptance by the rest of the Honourable in the House.
